Press release: Kemetyl divests Nordic Industry division

The Kemetyl group has, after a few declining years been able to restructure and grow the business by focusing on a few core areas. Earlier this year the Norwegian consumer business was divested and before that there were other divestments such as the business in the Baltics and the production site in Halden.

“Our structure is now less complex and we can focus on strengthening our position on our core markets” says Helen Axelsson, CEO Kemetyl group. In line with this strategy Kemetyl today announces the divestment of it’s Nordic Industry division. We have signed an agreement to sell our Nordic Industry business to Univar and the expectation is that this transaction will be finalized by beginning of 2018.

By divesting our Industrial business unit we will be able to even further focus on our core areas and also create possibilities and resources to invest in these areas. As an example we have just ordered two pouch machines, which will give us a significantly stronger position on the market, one for Soest and one for Jordbro production sites.

Univar is a global company within distribution of industrial chemicals with a strong position in the Nordics. Nordic Industry is a good fit for Univar to further strengthen their position in the Nordics and to close some gaps in their product portfolio. All employees of Nordic Industry will be transferred to Univar at the date of closing.

“We are convinced this is a win win situation for both companies” says Helen Axelsson where Kemetyl will be able to further focus the business on our core markets, car care and home & garden, giving us great possibilities to invest in the future. At the same time Univar will benefit from Nordic Industry’s market position especially in Norway and the product portfolio within very important market segments.
